WINNERS, Coppa’s and Mercatino Coming to Downtown Toronto in 2018

July 11, 2017

TORONTO, ON – (July 11, 2017) — Menkes Developments Ltd. (Menkes) is pleased to announce the addition of WINNERS, Coppa’s Fresh Market (Coppa’s) and Harbour Eats by Mercatino (Mercatino) as anchor retailers at One York Street. WINNERS, Coppa’s and Mercatino will service the strong demand for retail by the 24/7 office and residential population in Toronto’s South Core.

The new stores will be part of a large-scale mixed-use office, residential and retail complex at York and Harbour Streets in the rapidly-expanding South Core district, which is home to a growing number of residential buildings, commercial towers and entertainment venues such as the Air Canada Centre, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, and the Rogers Centre. Connected to Toronto’s comprehensive PATH network, the complex was developed by Menkes and includes a 35-storey office tower called One York Street (also known as Sun Life Financial Tower), two 70 and 66-storey condominium towers known as Harbour Plaza Residences, a four-storey retail podium and a four level underground parking garage. WINNERS, Coppa’s and Mercatino will join Pure Fitness in the complex.
“We are excited to partner with Menkes for our first ever store in downtown Toronto,” said John Louie Coppa, President of Coppa’s Fresh Market. “We will provide a unique concept, tailored to the demands of young, urban professionals living and working downtown.” “This coveted location will allow Coppa’s to serve the downtown Toronto market in a convenient shopping complex right in the city’s highly sought-after South Core.”

“One York is a flagship location for Mercatino, and fitting to make a real statement for our expansion to the Toronto market,” said Amit Vadan, President of Mercatino.  “Each of Mercatino’s locations feature unique food stations that are enriched with an incredible variety of high quality, wholesome, and natural ingredients that are delivered fresh daily, which are then combined together by our chefs to produce an exceptional and very flavourful experience.”

“Given the limited, large-scale retail space available in the city and the increasing population in the South Core, WINNERS, Coppa’s and Mercatino will tap into a significant market that has shown consistent robust growth in both the commercial and residential sector since 2009” said Peter Menkes, President of the Commercial/Industrial Division at Menkes. “A PATH connection to Union Station will further draw people to this flagship retail destination and gives consumers a one-stop shopping experience.”

WINNERS and Coppa’s will be located on the second floor of the retail podium in the One York / Harbour Plaza complex. Joining Pure Fitness on the fourth floor of the complex, Harbour Eats by Mercatino will operate an impressive food hall with an expansive terrace overlooking a new city park and Lake Ontario.  Pedestrian entrances are at street level and PATH level, and designated retail parking is accessible from both Harbour Street and Lake Shore Boulevard.

Pure Fitness is scheduled to open Summer 2017, followed by Harbour Eats by Mercatino in Fall 2017. Both WINNERS and Coppa’s will open in early 2018.

Approximately 85,000 square feet in the retail podium at One York has now been leased. The balance of the space available will be marketed to a unique 6,500 square feet restaurant capable of utilizing the Harbour Street patio fronting onto the new park, as well as 60,000 square feet on the third floor to home goods and entertainment uses that benefit from PATH access, direct loading and limited competition downtown.
