MENKES REVEALS LOBBY AND AMENITIES AT ADAGIO IN YORKVILLE

June 28, 2025

Adagio in Yorkville pays tribute to its distinguished legacy of the 771 Yonge Street address.

Toronto – June 28, 2025 – Menkes Developments Ltd. (“Menkes”) is pleased to share a first look at the spectacular lobby and amenities at Adagio, nestled in the heart of Yorkville and inspired by the rich history of the 148-year-old building at 771 Yonge Street. Amid the excitement of creating the new Village of Yorkville in 1872, entrepreneurial couple Elizabeth and Joseph French built a three-storey hotel at 771 Yonge St. This architectural treasure still stands, and will be preserved and integrated into the new structure of Adagio.

A 21st century architectural marvel, Adagio proclaims its poise and creativity as it ascends above Yonge Street. Architects Giannone Petricone Associates have taken care to capture the spirit of the vintage 1872 building. Its curved windows are transposed to the curving lines on the new building, and its rustic red brick is restored and carried through to the new podium.

From 1930 to 1945, this address was home to the studio of Boris Volkoff – known as the father of Canadian ballet – who trained generations of dancers, co-founded the National Ballet of Canada, and collaborated with the Canadian Opera Company.

Adagio’s Lobby features a series of elegant archways that visually break up the corridor while creating rhythm and intimacy, reinforcing the boutique-style inspiration. Polished black marble walls with striking white veining, brushed brass framed arches, and plush velvet furnishings in soft rose and deep forest green tones anchor the space. Above, lighting disguised as sculptural ceiling installations resembling delicate ballerina tutu’s add a touch of whimsy and artistry, casting soft, ambient light throughout the lobby. Adagio’s “piece-de-resistance” is an archival photograph of Volkoff dancers in midflight - emphasized with dynamic sweeps of vibrant colour, this gesture honors the ballet's pioneering legacy while creating a bridge into modern day urban life.

Celebrating the esteemed history of 771 Yonge St., the amenities of Adagio exudes grace and strength. Rounded features, curves and arches mimic the flow and movement of ballet, while rich materials and lighting take their cues from the Art Deco era. The resulting look is classic, serene and timeless.

Whether residents are in the mood for quiet alone time or socializing with friends, Adagio’s amenities are artfully designed to elevate every experience. From relaxing on the outdoor terrace to entertaining in the party room or dining room, it’s all effortless. Even residents’ pets receive special treatment at the pet spa. A fully outfitted fitness centre and a well-equipped co-working space round out the list of options to suit the most luxurious of lifestyles.

Designed as a modern and elegant retreat in the heart of the city, Adagio pays tribute to this distinguished legacy and promises residents the definition of refined downtown living.
